To promote international recruitment of skilled professionals between Germany and India, Passau had the privilege of welcoming two distinguished guests to the headquarters of ICUnet.Group on January 15, 2025: Shri Shatrughna Sinha, Consul General of India in Munich, and Amir Bashir, the Consul for Trade, Education, and Information.
The Indian Consulate plays a crucial role in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Germany, particularly in the regions of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Its responsibilities span various areas, including visa services, promoting education, research, and culture, as well as supporting economic collaboration, such as the exchange of highly skilled workers—especially in IT, engineering, and healthcare. In fact, 59% of Indian professionals living in Germany are employed in specialized roles.
With an estimated 5 million job vacancies expected in Germany by 2030, Dr. Fritz Audebert, founder of ICUnet, and Consul General Shri Shatrughna Sinha see significant potential in facilitating the migration of skilled professionals from India. Given the strong bilateral ties between the two countries, they believe immigration processes can be streamlined effectively.
What is needed now is a growing openness to the potential of multicultural workforces—especially in smaller businesses—as well as a better understanding of the specific needs companies have when it comes to international talent. Additionally, there must be a strong push to recognize Indian qualifications, to avoid highly skilled professionals being placed in roles they are overqualified for. Looking ahead, long-term strategies must be developed to retain these professionals, such as creating opportunities for Indian students who are already gaining work experience in German companies during their studies.
