Thank you very much for the lively exchange during yesterday's Business Breakfast in Vienna!
At a beautifully laid table with a delicious and healthy breakfast, Matthias Würth (MD ICUnet Austria GmbH) moderated the exciting discussions that arose during Jannik Heckenhahn's (Head of Global Talent Strategy) talk on successful global talent acquisition.
Our main takeaways?
“The topic of family life is the most important thing throughout the entire process,” said Stephanie Lahner (Deputy Managing Director ICUnet Austria GmbH & Senior Relocation & Immigration Manager), who has already immigrated to Austria in the four-digit range. ‘However, when it comes to international recruiting, many companies unfortunately still have blinkers on,’ countered one of the participants. This is partly due to outdated, old beliefs, as many companies are still trapped in stereotypical thinking with regard to the origin of candidates – this must change quickly!
According to Matthias Würth, global recruiting should no longer be plan B, but part of plan A. What is needed to achieve this? Entrepreneurs who lead the way with well-functioning practical examples and who tell the success stories of their talents. We should create an exchange of experiences with those who have already gone through these processes: “It is important to take the migrating people by the hand – to let them know that someone really cares about them. We have to take our talents' uncertainties seriously and respond accordingly,“ emphasized Matthias Würth. ‘Providing certainty, for example, low-threshold training offers such as 10-minute smartphone-based microlearning sessions on ’Living and Working in Austria',” said Jannik Heckenhahn.
Our conclusion?
The question of the relevance of global recruiting is undisputed. However, in order to not only successfully acquire global talent, but also retain it in the long term, we need bureaucratic as well as intercultural expertise. Equally important is a good measure of care, as well as a mutual exchange to learn from each other.
